30 Day Writing Meme- Day 2
Day 2: How many characters do you have? Do you prefer males or females?
Oh boy… How many characters out of all the things I’ve written?! That’s a lot… O_O
I mean, there were nine main characters in The Disappearing Zone trilogy (the stories I wrote in 8th grade-high school), plus a bunch of other supporting characters, including the villain, another villain, his wife… and tons of others.
Then, I’ve got a bunch of characters from the NaNoWriMo stories. So, say that adds another ten, between the 2 years I seriously did NaNo.
And then I started a historical fiction about Anne Bonny after her pirate days… Do they count as characters if they were real people?
And now I’ve got my steampunk anthology… With roughly two characters per story, and four stories written so far…
As for whether I like writing male or female characters, I really don’t have a preference. When I think about the protagonists in all of these stories mentioned above, it comes out with an even number of guys and girls. (That is to say, and even number of character whose point of view dominates most of the story…)
I tend to think of the plot first, when it comes to me in a sentence or a “what if?” and then who the characters should be just fall into place. As long as I enjoy writing the character, I don’t think it matters what their gender is…
